Paging Dr. Feelgood to the OR - STAT!
OK, I shouldn't be making light of this potentially serious situation, but I can't help it! It's all too surreal for me to comprehend and best to joke about what one finds confounding than to dwell on it and perpetuate stress.
So I am going in for what is commonly referred to in medical circles as "minor" surgery. However, since this is me we're discussing, minor takes on a whole different meaning. For me, minor is having a stuffy nose. Once we move up to the flu, swine or otherwise, we're talking major serious with complications in the high probability ratio. I am using big math words recklessly; as I am not a math whiz in any sense of the word, so if I am dead wrong, forgive me. So, needless to say, surgery ranks right up there with reading last rites. Too morbid? I'll cut it out. ;-)
Anyway, next Tuesday, June 16, I go in for surgery. Monday is the fun pre-op and pre-admission day! I am having a little hernia repaired that appeared, of all places, over my latest acquisition – a.k.a. Kidney #4. No worries about the kidney though. It’s in there being the best little trooper, just doing its job. That is the main reason they want to go in and nip any potential problems in the bud. Prevention is always better than treatment after the fact.
So here it is, Friday after 5 p.m. and I am covering this last hour for Barbara, who is out. I am resisting making jokes about needing time off from work so badly, that I scheduled a hernia to have an excuse. Clearly that is not the case. If I could bypass the whole surgical intervention, operating room thing I would. I’ll take the two-week’s rest, though. Ah, there I go again – champagne dreams with beer money.
Well…I lack further witty commentary or substantial contributions, so I will end it here. I will exit the blog (for now) on a high note, like ‘Seinfeld’ as opposed to a poor and pathetic departure, like ‘Roseanne’. It is always best to exit gracefully. During my two-week home confinement, I will probably write up a few blog entries about the fun and good cheer of recovery and rediscovery…(of daytime TV). I am sure it will be something utterly brilliant! Until next time…
